I've been working to grow immigration defense strategies with Defend and Recruit, a project that's helped start and grow hundreds of immigrantion groups around the country.

Here's my bio that covers more of my work: Umme has spent her career driving change across labor and workers' rights, immigrant, climate, and racial justice movements. She's led and supported people powered campaigns that ensured landmark victories - from securing rights for hundreds of thousands of workers and transforming industrial sectors to cancelling billions in unjust student, housing and carceral debt, reforming corporate policies, advancing bold legislation, and electing progressive leaders. Over her nearly 20 years of experience, she's founded NGOs in Australia, the US, and the UK; coached and trained leaders and activists across the world, and built new, innovative organising models that are still being used by community groups and unions to this day.
