David A Sanders

As the President of the new Malcolm X College, Mr. Sanders is responsible for over 15,000 students, over 900 employees and a combined budget of over $75M. He is charged with the overall vision, mission and operations of the college as well as developing and implementing an overall Strategic Plan, a Strategic, Enrollment Management Plan and an Equity Plan for the college, which includes the development, accreditation, management and control of 26 health science programs; 12 of which are accredited. Since his appointment in 2015, President Sanders has:

• Successfully led MXC to approved site and 10-year reaccreditation visit by the Higher Learning Commission; and
• Led Malcolm X to be named one of the 2019, 2021-2024 Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges by NISOD and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine; and
• Successfully led MXC to meet or exceed its metrics in completion outcomes including graduation rate, retention, completion, licensure pass rates and job placement; and
• Successfully led Malcolm X to its highest enrollment in over 20 years surpassing the 11,100 mark in credit enrollment. The growth in enrollment was led by African-American males with enrollment gains in every demographic. Malcolm X was one of only 3 colleges in IL to have enrollment gains during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic; and
•Successfully led Malcolm X to develop a Study Abroad program that has transformationally impacted students and energized the student body; and
• Successfully led Malcolm X to be named the best community college in the City of Chicago by Intelligent.com in 2023; and
• Successfully managed the CCC School of Nursing (CCCSON) to become one of the best Associate Degreed Nursing (ADN) program in the state by volume and average pass rates of over 90% over the past 7 years, and
• Successfully led MXC to generate over $22M in new grants in FY21-22 for a total grants portfolios exceeding $31M; and
• Successfully managed the consolidation of 6 health care programs into the new Malcolm X College including approvals from the varied accrediting and regulatory bodies.

Mr. Sanders holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from DePaul University, Chicago, IL and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Concordia University and is doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. A dedicated and committed Christian man, Mr. Sanders serves his national, state and local church in a variety of leadership capacities and is known for his faith, humility, liberality, patience, strength and dogmatic determination.
