Organizer

Brittany Burns, formally known as Brittany Jones-Chukura, is a Civil/Social Rights Advocate from Atlanta, GA. After the death of George Floyd, Britt was inspired to move from the corporate lifestyle to nonprofit advocacy. While protesting police brutality for 224 days, Brittany Burns cofounded Justice for Georgia, a 501(c)3 in September 2020. While protesting, Brittany met many amazing organizers and learned that in order to make any change, locals must be able to vote. Cofounding Protect the Vote GA in 2021 with 2 other strong black women helped build a coalition of organizations fighting SB202 and empowering community members to vote. As Brittany has continued to grow in her advocacy, she has been able to join many other nonprofits that fight for civil and social rights through grassroots organizing, policy, and community engagement.
"One thing that helps me to continue going is that I look to my right and I look to my left and I realize I am not alone in these fights. I'm in company of GOOD TROUBLE. There are great people who advocate and rally for justice and accountability and they're not wrong. When you're not wrong, you're right. It's good to be on the right side. None of these fights are in vain," stated Brittany Burns when asked about what keeps her motivated to organize.
