Data scientist

Andrea Jones-Rooy is a data scientist, educator, and speaker who applies quantitative methods to seemingly intractable challenges like polarization, misinformation, and authoritarian censorship, as well as empowers others to think scientifically and creatively about their most pressing problems.

She regularly advises global Fortune 500s, tech companies, nonprofits, and government agencies, including the UN, on how to use data to address their toughest challenges. She hosts the podcast Behind the Data, and her writing appears in outlets like The Daily Beast, Quartz, FiveThirtyEight, Harvard Business Review, and The Washington Post.

Previously, Andrea was a professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the NYU Center for Data Science, where she developed and taught their flagship and perpetually waitlisted course Data Science for Everyone.

Andrea holds a Ph.D. in political science and complex systems from the University of Michigan. She’s also a world-touring standup comedian and circus performer specializing in trapeze and fire.
